Under the Oak Tree is a Norfolk studio where our goods are designed, printed, cut and carefully finished. Goods are posted from the studio.

Thimble Oak Hollow is the woodland story world that inspires many of the illustrations - a quiet place where foxes, mice, badgers and other creatures live and work beneath the roots of the Whispering Tree.

Artwork is illustrated by the artist, storyteller, and many-cups-of-tea maker behind Under the Oak Tree - Rosie.

Under the Oak Tree is the trunk and the upper branches. From there many smaller branches grow - Thimble Oak Hollow, our woodland subscription boxes, our retail shop, our trade shop, an illustrations-only site, collaborations with other artists, books, blogs and other creative projects.

All of them grow from the same tree.

Thimble Oak Hollow began as a story for our Grandson and is slowly growing into a children’s book series. With a little luck, the woodland creatures will find their way onto bookstore shelves in 2026.

From time to time we also collaborate with other artists. When a design is created by a guest artist. Part of the fun and joy of Under the Oak Tree is that guest artists slowly become part of the story too.

Rather than using their everyday names, they choose to adopt a woodland character and become one of the residents of the Hollow. Their real-world identity stays quietly behind the scenes, while their creative work appears through the character they have become.

This gives the artist freedom to play, create and explore new styles.

Instead of seeing a name like Jane Bloggs, you might meet Tilly Doory the Dormouse, who lives in Bramble Cottage, or another woodland resident with their own story to tell.

Over time, these artists simply become part of the world of Thimble Oak Hollow. You will soon see the different artists style as you become part of the world too.
